‘Dash Akol’ to go on Canadian screen

The Iranian Cinematheque of Didar in Toronto, Canada, has scheduled to screen Iranian short animation ‘Dash Akol’ during a program titled “Screening of Tirgan”.

Directed by Hajar Mehrani, the animation narrates the story of Dash Akol, his love story, and his fights with an old rival, Kak-Rostam.

The title ‘Dash Akol’ is adopted from a short story written by renowned Iranian writer Sadeq Hedayat (1903-1951).

However, the animation director has claimed that his work departs from the narrative wherever symbols are concerned.

Mehrani’s animation is narrated on the basis of dialogue and a music score by composer and kamancheh player Maryam Chaleshbayan.

The animated piece won the Best Animation award at the 15th London Independent Film Festival in the UK.

The Iranian Cinematheque of Didar screenings will be followed by Q&A sessions, attended by the film crews, on February 21.
