Macedonia hosting Iranian ‘Sheeple’

A festival of films from Iranian and Macedonian directors has been screening ‘Sheeple’ at the Cinematheque of Macedonia in the North Macedonian capital of Skopje.

Directed by Houman Seyyedi, ‘Sheeple’ took part at competition section of the 36th Fajr Film Festival and won four Crystal Simorgh awards for Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Film from the view point of Art and Experience Cinema.

Later on, the 12th Celebration of Iranian Cinema Critics and Screenwriters awarded Seyyedi’s tragicomedy in six categories, including best film, best director, best actor, and best supporting actor.

The flick has gone on screen in a number of countries and festivals, including the 22nd Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia, the 2019 “Visions of Iran” (Iranian Filmfest Cologne) in Germany, and the 18th Transilvania International Film Festival in Romania.

Most recently the movie went on screen at the 7th Shahr (Urban) International Film Festival and received Best Director and Best Actor awards at the 2nd Cinema Cinema Academy Awards, both in Iran.

‘Sheeple’ is about Shahin, a loud-mouthed fellow adopted years ago, who tries to establish his authority in a family run by the iron hand of his drug lord brother.

“Two brothers are running and making Crystal meth in a hidden laboratory in middle of nowhere of an urban jungle and they do care for the honor of their neighborhood. All of a sudden a mobile footage on their sister’s spreading everywhere and this causes some strange incidents,” a short synopsis of the flick reads.

The North Macedonia Festival has been slated for February 17-23, 2020.
