Turkish fest picks Iranian short

Iranian short film ‘Funfair’ has been scheduled to attend the Akbank Short Film Festival in Turkey.

Directed by Kaveh Mazaheri, the 15-minute short will be in contention at the 16 edition of the Turkish film event.

The film narrates the story of a young married couple and their 5-year-old kid. The three of them are grabbling with financial issues the father of the family has brought upon them.

“Majid, a financially struggling man, comes up with a ploy in order to better the life of his wife, Sara,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The cast list for ‘Funfair’ includes Sonia Sanjari, Soroush Saeedi and Artin Rabiei.

The short has so far attended a number of international festivals and won awards, including the special mention of the Winchester Film Festival in the UK and the Best Screenplay Award at the Court en Scene film festival in France.

ifilm star of ‘Lean on the wind’, Afsaneh Pakrou, has been invited to be a member of the jury at the Turkish film festival.

Established in 2004, Akbank Short Film Festival aims to encourage short film production and also to support new filmmakers.

A total of 2217 short films from 74 different countries have been submitted to the festival’s competition sections.

The short film festival will be held on March 16–26, 2020.
