Iranian ‘Slaughter’ to vie in Italy

Iran’s short film ‘Slaughter’ has been selected to vie at the 11th edition of the Skepto International Film Festival in Italy.

Co-directed by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zand-Karimi, the short narrates the story of a family in a village in Iran.

Facing a tough winter, the father of the family, Qasem, decides to sell their only cow. The son who is emotionally attached to the cow lets it loose to stop the slaughter.

The short has vied in several festivals including the Gollut Festival in Spain, the 26th PUBLICYSTYKA international film festival in Poland, the 18th Villammare Film Festival in Italy, Duhok International Film Festival in Iraq and "Crossing the Screen" Film Festival in the UK.

The Skepto festival focuses on short films and has a competitive nature.

The fest aims to provide independent filmmakers with an opportunity to showcase their films.

It also creates a space for the attendees to dialogue and intercultural exchange.

This edition of the Italian festival was slated for April but due to the Coronavirus fears, it has been postponed till October.
