‘Waterfolks’ to go on Belgian screen

Iranian documentary ‘Waterfolks’ has been selected to go on screen at the 12th edition of the Millennium Festival in Belgium.

Directed by Azadeh Bizargiti, the Iranian title follows the everyday life of a fisherwoman in the Persian Gulf.

‘Waterfolks’ is a poetic narration about a woman living and working on Hengam Island in Hormozgan province, south of Iran.

The documentary has gone on screen at a number of global events, including the 22nd Annual Maine International Film Festival, the 2019 Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival and the 8th American Documentary Film Festival, all in the US, as well as the 2018 Iran Documentary Independent Award.

A production of IRIB’s documentary channel, Bizargiti’s work has attended the 12th Cinema Verite (Iran’s major international documentary film festival) where it grabbed the Diploma for Best Director of Short Documentary.

The doc has also received the award for “Best Reflection of National Heritage” at the 2019 Didor International Documentary Film Festival in Tajikistan.

The Millennium festival aims to showcase high-quality independent documentary films that focus on the relationship of man to the world.

The event selects films that are linked to the major challenges of the 21st century.

The 12th edition of the Millennium festival is scheduled for March 27-April 4, 2020.
