Derakhshandeh backs online screening

Iranian prominent female director Pouran Derakhshandeh has supported the online screening of movies for all of the days of the year and not just during the coronavirus lockdown.

Derakhshandeh hailed the online screening of movies as an interesting idea that could be attractive for both filmmakers and audiences.

She said the online screening of movies is ideal for all of the days of the year and not only during the coronavirus lockdown.

Derakhshandeh stressed that virtual cinema is in the interest of the Iranian cinema and audiences.

Her remarks comes as Ebrahim Hatamikia’s ‘Exodus’ has been streaming online since early this month without getting a theatrical release after the coronavirus outbreak led to the closure of movie theaters.

Derakhshandeh was born in Kermanshah in March 1951. She is a scriptwriter, producer and director.

She made her feature film directorial debut with ‘The Relationship’ in 1986. The film was awarded at Italy’s Giffoney Film Festival.

Her films were awarded at various festivals. She has also served on the jury panel for several domestic and international film festivals.
