Iran cinema fest bends acceptance rules

The Hafez Awards has changed film selection rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a media report Ali Moallem, the managing director of the Iranian awards ceremony, has announced that this year the films that have had online screening will be reviewed and will be among the selections.

The newly announced modifications have been considered for the fact that all the screenings in movie theaters have been suspended in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic.

Accordingly, besides the movies which have had screening in theaters in the appointed time period, the ones that have only had online screening will also be reviewed by the jury of the event.

The Hafez Awards is an annual awarding ceremony which is held to honor cinematic achievements in Iranian cinema.

The awards, first presented in 1997, are presented by the Persian cinematic monthly Donya-ye Tasvir (Picture World Magazine).
