Ireland to host Iranian ‘Funfair’

Iranian short title ‘Funfair’ has been selected to vie at the Fastnet Film Festival in Ireland.

Directed by Kaveh Mazaheri, the 15-minute flick narrates the story of a young married couple and their 5-year-old kid.

The three of them are grabbling with financial issues that the father of the family has brought upon them.

“Majid, a financially struggling man, comes up with a ploy in order to better the life of his wife, Sara”, Reads a brief synopsis for the flick.

The Iran/Canada co-production has also been accepted into the competition programs of the 4th Akbank Short Film Festival in Turkey, the 18th Geneva International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Switzerland as well as the 15th Dieciminuti Film Festival in Italy.

‘Funfair’ has been qualified for the Oscar 2021 after winning the best short film award at the 32nd Foyle Film Festival in the UK.

The annual Fastnet event is an independent festival that brings together professional and first-time filmmakers.

The event encourages an exchange of ideas among the filmmakers.

The festival was previously scheduled for May 20th-24th, 2020. However organizers of the event canceled it in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the short film competition will be held in 2021.
