Directed by Mahboubeh Kalaee and produced by Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the 4-minute animation is about a bowl with three motifs of roses where a universe of meaning is telling the story of love and loneliness.
The short animation has gone on screen at a number of global events, including the 29th World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb (Animafest Zagreb) in Croatia, the 16th “In The Palace” International Film Festival in Bulgaria, the 2019 Banjaluka International Animated Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the 2020 Canterbury Anifest in the UK.
Born in 1992, Kalaee holds a BA in Industrial Design from the Tehran College of Fine Arts. She is studying animation directing at Tehran University of Art (Faculty of Cinema) since 2018. She is a 2D animator, writer, illustrator, graphic designer, and director of several short and experimental animations.
Launched in 2000, the MONSTRA has celebrated short films and provided an opportunity for people with different artistic backgrounds to meet.
The organizers published an official statement that reads, “Due to the temporary shutdown of some of the city-run venues in order to comply to the prevention measures announced by the Lisbon City Council, the Lisbon Animation Festival | MONSTRA was left with no other options than to cancel its program scheduled for March 18-29, 2020”.
Therefore, the 20th edition of the event kicked off on May 25 and will run through May 31.
‘Am I a Wolf?’ by Amir-Houshang Moeen is the other Iranian title at this edition of the MONSTRA.
