Iranian lineup to vie in UK

The Sheffield Doc/Fest in the UK is slated to host a lineup of Iranian films.

Three Iranian documentaries are announced to be presented at this year’s edition of the British festival.

Arash Eshaqi’s ‘Gracefully’, ‘Galena’ directed by Ezzatollah Parvazeh and ‘The Art of Living in Danger’ by Mina Keshavarz are to be screened at the event.

‘Gracefully’ won the Directors Guild Award at Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in Japan.

‘Galena’ is about a lonely old woman who lives in a few thousand-year-old uninhabited village in the heart of a desert, home to miners. “She spends her time living with the miners and has nightly conversations with her woolen doll,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Each year, some women become victims to domestic violence. ‘The Art of Living in Danger’ takes us along with some brave females who try to put an end to these sorts of offensive acts. What they want is to at least be safe within the boundaries of their own homes.

Since its establishment in 1994, Sheffield Doc/Fest has become the UK's biggest documentary festival and the third largest in the world.

The 2020 edition of Sheffield International Documentary Festival will take place online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The fest is among Academy Award qualifying festivals for documentary features.
