Iran doc on way to New Zealand

Iranian documentary feature ‘Sunless Shadows’ has been scheduled to attend the Doc Edge Festival in New Zealand.

The 15th edition of the film event will be screening Mehrdad Oskouee’s award-wining flick at its competition lineup along with the rest of the contestants from around the world.

All the selected docs of this year’s festival will be available to the fest’s audiences online over the pandemic of coronavirus. The slated time of the fest is from June 12 through to July 5, 2020.

The 74-minute documentary narrates the story of five young women who are jailed in a small juvenile detention center for murder.

Through breathtaking monologues, the women clarify the circumstances of the murders and even their motives.

The doc has already attended a number of international events, including the 19th DocPoint - Helsinki Documentary Film Festival in Finland, the 17th Big Sky doc filmfest and the Museum of Modern Art in the US, the 17th True/False Film Fest in the US, the 18th Geneva International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Switzerland, and the 16th ZagrebDox in Croatia.

Among many honors gained by the film, Oskouee received the Best Director award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in Netherlands.

Launched in 2005, the Doc Edge Festival has been a platform to showcase international documentary movies and also docs from New Zealand to provide independent and important view of the world.
