‘Oath’ crowned in Switzerland

Mohsen Tanabandeh’s ‘Oath’ has been crowned at the Iranian Film Festival of Zurich (IFFZ) in Switzerland.

The 6th edition of the Zurich film event bestowed its Best Director Award to Tanabandeh for his outstanding directing.

‘Oath’, which counts as Tanabandeh’s second directing experience, is about Rezvan who is murdered and now her family is after proving the fact that her husband is the one who killed her.

The social flick took its premiere at the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Iran. Since then, it has been touring at various film events, including the 32nd Tokyo International Film Festival in Japan, the 8th Persian Film Festival in Australia, the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, and the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Iran where it got several nominations.

Notable among the cast are Saeed AqakhaniMahnaz AfsharHassan Pourshirazi and Mehran Ahmadi.

The Hollywood Reporter published a review on the movie and hailed Tanabandeh’s latest film, describing it as a title that “has enough drama and vivid characters to find festival favor”.

The IFFZ aims to fill the cultural gap between Iranians and Swiss as well as the many foreigners living in Switzerland.

The event defines itself as “A Platform for presenting the Iranian culture and tradition and for building a bridge between different cultures by the means of the universal language of art and especially the 7th art, cinema”.

This edition of the festival was held online on May 28-June 03, 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
