Iran mega director to celebrate 1st Venice entry

Three Iranian feature films, including Majid Majidi’s ‘The Sun’, have been selected for the 2020 line-up of Venice International Film Festival.

The world's oldest film festival, Venice, revealed the line-up of its 77th edition on Tuesday, with ‘The Sun’ announced as one of the titles to compete for this year's Golden Lion at the Italian festival.

This marks the director's first competition entry at the event with a flick themed on child labor. It won the Best Film and Best Screenplay awards at the 38th edition of Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

The movie is starring Mohammad-Javad Ezzati, Ali Nasiriyan and Tannaz Tabatabaee.

Meanwhile, Iranian films ‘Careless Crime’ by Shahram Mokri and Ahmad Bahrami’s ‘The Wasteland’ will take part in the festival’s Horizons, which spotlights new-comers and art-house favorites.

The 2020 Venice International Film Festival will take place on September 2-12.

It will be the first major film event to be held since the coronavirus outbreak has led to the cancellation of many cultural events.
