US nominates Iran movie

Iranian drama ‘Repression’ has won a nomination at the Universal Film Festival in the US.

The movie directed by Reza Gouran, nominated for the best Foreign Film award alongside four other films.

The flick narrates the story of some women who get back to their paternal home and find it spiritless.

‘Repression’ is the story of those who have faced deep dictatorship for lifetime at home. The house had turned into hell due to the father’s bad behavior; so the children escaped from the house in one way or another to start over.

Roya Afshar, Elham Korda, Pardis Ahmadieh, Baran Kosari, Sara Bahrami and Jamshid Hashempour are some notable names among the cast members of the film.

‘Repression’ was previously screened at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Australia in November 2019.

Gouran has so far directed some award-winning plays such as ‘Yerma’ which won him the Best Director award at the International Fajr Theater Festival.

Reza Mirkarimi’s feature-length movie ‘Castle of Dreams’ is also in the competition lineup of the Universal Film Festival this year.

According to the website of the event, “The Mission of the Universal Film Festival is to create and provide a credible and accessible venue for aspiring and talented filmmakers”.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the upcoming edition of the event will go online on August 22-24, 2020.
