Iran doc wins award at Greek fest

The 7th edition of the International Documentary Festival of Ierapetra (IDFI) in Greece has awarded Iranian documentary ‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’.

Directed by Mahmoud-Reza Sani, the doc was screened at the main competition section of the event and succeeded to grab the best documentary award.

The film depicts late Abbas Kiarostami’s worldview and his perspective on life and cinema.

In the doc, Kiarostami is portrayed as a child who is exploring new games. As he says, cinema for him is like a game that allows him to step into his childhood.

‘Kiarostami and His Missing Cane’ has won some honors at different global events, including the best documentary feature at the 4th Salto Independent Film Festival in Uruguay.

Kiarostami was a multiple award-winning Iranian filmmaker. He was honored at more than 300 film events around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival in 1997, where he won the Palme d'Or for his masterpiece ‘Taste of Cherry’.

Held on August 1-10, the IDFI provides a unique arts experience with films from all over the world.
