Iran short to vie at Macedonian fest

The Galichnik Film Festival in Macedonia is scheduled to play host to Iranian short documentary ‘We Are Not Venice’.

Directed by Komeil Soheili, the doc is among the eight competition titles at the first edition of the Macedonian film event.

‘We Are Not Venice’ investigates the cultural problems that tourism may cause. It looks at all the changes that visitors can bring about to locals’ values and priorities.

The film shows a village in Iran, where the construction of any hotels has been forbidden. Local residents of the area believe that having hotel may modify their culture, so they’d rather host the tourists in their homes to keep their tradition of hospitality alive. However, the younger generation is open to all changes for the financial benefits.

The doc will also be screened at the Terres Travel Festival-Films and Creativity in Spain and at the Int’l Ethnographic film festival (OKO) in Ukraine.

The Galichnik Film Festival will be held in Galichnik village where traditional architecture is well-preserved and will give films the chance to compete in three categories of short fiction, documentary and animation.

The event, which is a platform for emerging filmmakers, will hold on August 28-30, 2020.
