Spanish fest to host Iran short

Iranian short film ‘Branded’ themed on Afghan immigrants in Iran is set to screen at the Girona Film Festival in Spain.

The short, directed by Fatemeh Mohammadi, will join the competition program of the Spanish fest’s 32nd edition.

‘Branded’ is the story of Hafiz, a man who crosses the border to Afghanistan in order to help save the life of a woman and her little daughter.

Mohammadi, who has made the festival favorite short film ‘Oblivion’, said earlier to the media that she means to make a short film which will reflect upon the pains and miseries Afghan immigrants experience. Therefore, in the making of ‘Branded’ she takes on mainly Afghan cast and crew members.

She also mentioned that she wants to prove that Afghans deserve a better situation than what they are currently stuck in.

The Girona Film Festival aims to give room to emerging filmmaking talents to flourish. The event will host around 400 films, including feature, short, documentary and cartoons.

This year’s edition of the fest is slated for September 29- October 03.
