Grand OFF nominates Iran’s ‘The Other’

The Grand OFF World Independent Short Film Awards in Poland has nominated Iranian flick ‘The Other’.

The award-winning film, co-directed by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zand-Karimi, has been listed among the five short works nominated for Best Production Design award at the 14th edition of the Polish event.

The other titles nominated in this category are ‘Ghost of Spacetime’ by Karim Tajouaout from Morocco, ‘Sergi & Irina' by Alex Tejedor and Miquel Verd from Spain, ‘The Next One’ by Dominik György from the Czech Republic, and ‘Emperor’ by Jannis Alexander Kiefer from Germany.

‘The Other’ narrates the story of a religious and traditional man who suspects his wife after her death and thinks she had a relationship with another man.

His condition becomes critical when he suspects that her daughter belongs to the other man, too.

The cast members are Majid Potki, Shenia Mozaffarian and Mohammad Kermanshahi.

‘The Other’ has gone on screen at the 36th Tehran International Short Film Festival, where it garnered the second prize of the Book and Cinema section.

The short film has also received accolades such as Best Silent Film award at the Venice Intercultural Film Festival in Italy and Best Cinematography award at the International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf in Serbia.

It has competed at some global events, including the 18th Ischia Film Festival in Italy, the 11th One Country One Film Apchat-Issoire International Film Festival in France, and the 31st Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival in Brazil.

The Grand OFF World Independent Short Film Awards is a cultural event that draws attention to the phenomenon of independent cinema and gives it a proper rank, seriousness and prestige.

The latest edition of the Grand OFF is slated for November 23-28, 2020 in Warsaw, Poland.
