Italian fest adds Iran’s ‘The Other’

The 2020 international Festival of Cinema Povero in Italy has added one more Iranian attendee, ‘The Other,’ to its list of contenders.

‘The Other’, an Iran-India co-production by Ako Zandkarimi and Saman Hosseinpour, will take its chance at the competition program of the 7th edition of the Italian Cinema Povero fest.

The short flick takes us to a world of suspicion and mistrust. It is a complicated story of a man who is left with a daughter from his recently deceased wife. It gets all nasty when he suspects that his daughter might belong to some other man who his wife had an affair with.

Saman Hosseinpour is an award-winning short film director. He garnered several global film awards before for his short films ‘The Last Embrace’ and ‘Slaughter’.

‘The Other’ is already the winner of the Best Cinematography award at the 13th International Film and Music Festival Kustendorf in Serbia and the Best Silent Film award at the 2020 Venice Intercultural Film Festival.

The 14th Grand OFF World Independent Short Film Awards, which is slated for November 23-28, 2020 in Poland, has recently nominated ‘The Other’ for Best Production Design award.

The film does not make Iran’s sole representative at the Italian festival as Barzan Rostami’s ‘Echo’ is also listed in the official selection of the event as an Iranian attendee.

Founded in 2014, the International Festival of "Cinema Povero" celebrates independent films.

The 2020 Cinema Povero will be held online on September 20-22.
