Iran film ‘Kupal’ to vie at Green filmfest

Environmental feature film ‘Kupal’ will be presented at the Iran International Green Film Festival (IIGFF) in July.

Director and writer Kazem Mollai’s ‘Kupal’ will be screened at the 6th edition of the IIGFF, which will take place in the Iranian capital city of Tehran from July 22-28.

‘Kupal’ narrates the story of Dr. Ahmad Koupal, who is a taxidermist hunter, as he faces a challenge just before the new year.

“You cannot be alone in the world,” Mollai, noted, giving a clue to the philosophical origin of the film, adding that, “The world is a strange place. Here, whoever shoots is the one who gets killed.”

Notable cast members of the film include Levon Haftvan, Nazanin Farahani, Pouria Rahimi Sam, Hossein Shamsabadi, Vahan Salimzadeh and Mitra Asiaee.

The Iran International Green Film Festival was founded in 1999. Its aim is to help recognize, introduce and award the best national and international films on the subjects of the environment and natural resources, while also increasing public awareness and sensitivity to the subjects.

Cash awards are given to films in categories such as fiction, documentary, animation and thematic sections.
