Among the attendees of the conference were the head of the festival, Mehdi Azimi-Mirabadi along with the head of the Public Relations and Information Center of the festival and several reporters.

Highlighting the importance of this prestigious Iranian film festival being held at the international level, Azimi-Mirabadi said that over 1,342 works from 128 countries have been submitted to the Health Defender section of the event, underlining that while the entire world is suffering from coronavirus, this section of the festival is warmly welcomed in the country and across the globe.

He further noted that all the sections of the RIFF but Festival of Festivals and Basiji Filmmakers will be held at the international level.

According to the festival’s president, 8,914 films have been submitted to the event so far, of which 5,000 works are made by Iranian filmmakers and the rest are from foreign countries.

He added that several acclaimed artists including Khosro Sinaee, Hadi Meshkot, Gholamreza Janatkhah Doust, Homayoun Reza Ataroudi and Hossein Fahimi will be honored at the inauguration ceremony of the festival on September 21 while Jamshid Hashempor, Mohsen Ali Akbari and Jamal Shorjeh will be also commemorated in the closing ceremony of the event to be held on November 27.

Hoping that the festival could pave the way for artists and researchers to pursue their activities, Azimi-Mirabadi also kindly appreciated the mass media for covering news of this prestigious intentional cinematic event.

At the end of the conference, he also signed the poster of the festival designed by Mohammad-Reza Rasouli.

Due to the spread of coronavirus, the 16th edition of the festival has not invited any foreign guests.
