‘Khatemeh’ awarded jury special mention at Italian fest

The jury of the 2020 LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival in Italy has awarded a Special Mention to Iranian documentary ‘Khatemeh’.

Hadi and Mehdi Zarei’s coproduction tells the story of an Afghan girl who unwillingly gets married to her late sister’s husband under the pressure of her family.

The doc features Khatameh's life from the moment she took refuge in the welfare organization's help center to file for divorce.

‘Khatemeh’ is the winner of Best Director for Full-length Documentary and Best Editing awards at the 12th edition of the Cinema Vérité, Iran’s International Documentary Film Festival.

It also competed at the 9th American Documentary and Animation Film Festival (AmDocs) in the US as well as the 2019 Florence Film Awards in Italy.

The LIFE AFTER OIL International Film Festival is an environmental and human rights film festival. It seeks to raise awareness on topics like ecology, environmental sustainability, and the creation of alternative energy sources to fossil fuels.

The event was held in Italy on September 10-19, 2020.
