Directed by Mehrshad Ranjbar, the Iranian 13-minute title won the best film award of student film competition at the 18th edition of the TIFF.
The TIFF jury said, “For its unique poetic film language, for its concise artistic choices and its great usage of its space, for how the film feeds the slow narrative force exclusively through powerful silent images to result in a beautiful mosaic of quotidian life of an old couple shot in a cinematic way.”
The film tells the story of an old woman who has taken care of her sick husband for many years, but an incident disturbs the order of her life.
It has been the first international appearance of ‘Talker’ in an international event.
The cast of the short includes Maryam Nourafkan and Abbas Jalallou.
The TIFF is an Oscar-qualifying event and the winner of the Best Short Award will be introduced to the Academy Awards.
Established in 2003, the TIFF is one of the most significant film festivals in Balkans.
The event is a place for different cultures to come together and interact.
The 18th edition of the TIFF was held online due to the coronavirus pandemic on September 19-25.
