‘Divran’ to go on screen in Norway

Iranian documentary ‘Divran’ has been selected to go on screen at the 28th edition of the Oslo Film Festival (OFF) in Norway.

This is the documentary’s first international screening.

Directed by Hamid Mirhosseini and produced by Mehdi Malek-Qasemi, 'Divran' depicts a part of Iran’s intangible cultural heritage.

The documentary shows the unknown and spiritual wedding customs in Rabor County, Kerman Province, southeast Iran.

The wedding ceremony, which lasts for seven continuous days and nights, is meant to be held in a specific way.

The groom’s mother chooses the bride and then his family and the elders in the neighborhood take sweets, Quran, scarf, and chador for praying to attend the proposal ceremony at the bride’s house.

They choose a holy date for the wedding ceremony and the guests attend a ritual in which each of them brings some kilograms of wheat.

Playing traditional musical instruments, they take the wheat to the mill to be ground into flour.

The OFF is an international and independent festival that accepts all genres of films.

Despite worries about the coronavirus pandemic, the festival will be held on November 26-28, 2020.
