Iranian doc subtitled to be released in Japan

On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the termination of Iraq's imposed war on Iran, Iranian documentary feature '18 percent' by Mostafa Shaban has been subtitled in Japanese to be screened in the country.

The Embassy of the Republic of Iran in Japan in collaboration with the General Directorate of Cultural Cooperation and Affairs of Iranians Abroad at Islamic Culture and Communication Organization have taken the necessary measures to bring ’18 Percent’ into Japanese.

Having Iranian movies translated and subtitled to be screened in Japan is part of the agenda pursued by Iran's cultural attache in Japan to let the two countries' people find a better understanding of each other's cultures.

‘18 Percent’ follows the life story of a survivor of chemical weapons named Ali Jalali Farahani who travels to Japan for medical treatment.

So far, several Iranian films have been subtitled and screened in Japan, including ‘Bodyguard’ (2016) by Ebrahim Hatamikia, ‘Villa Residents’ (2017) by Monir Qeidi, ‘Sweet Taste of Imagination’ (2014) by Kamal Tabrizi, ‘The Painting Pool’ (2013) by Maziyar Miri, ‘Crazy Rook’ (2014) by Abolhassan Davoudi and ‘So Close, So Faraway’ (2005) by Reza Mirkarimi.

The movies have been all welcomed by Japanese interested in knowing more about the Persian language and culture.
