‘The Wasteland’ makes new festival entry at Japanese event

Iranian movie ‘The Wasteland’ has made a new festival entry at the 2020 annual Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in Japan.

Ahmad Bahrami's second directorial production will compete at the 33rd edition of the Tokyo filmfest along with Reza Dormishian’s ‘We Have to’ and ‘Ti Ti’ by Ida Panahandeh.

Earlier reports have also announced that ‘The Wasteland’ will vie at the 11th Middle East Now (Festival of Cinema and Contemporary Culture on the Middle East) to be held in Italy on October 6-11, 2020.

The flick tells the story of a lonely man named Lotfolla who works as a supervisor in a bricklaying factory as a go-between. The owner of the factory once brings together all the workers and tells them something that changes their lives.

‘The Wasteland’ has recently been acclaimed by film critics at the 77th Venice Int’l Film Festival in Italy where it received the FIPRESCI award of the event.

Along with the Shanghai International Film Festival, the TIFF is recognized as one of the four major film festivals in the world and in the same league as Cannes, Venice and Berlin.

The 2020 round of the TIFF is scheduled for October 31-November 9, 2020.
