Resistance filmfest: 1st global event for commemorating medical staff

The 16th Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF) in Iran is considered by many cinema elites as the first international cinematic event which has put an exclusive spotlight on commemorating the frontline healthcare teams during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first section of this cinematic event was exclusively devoted to films about medical team under the title ‘Health Defenders’ section. The films in this section have been screened in Video-on-demand (VOD) format on the Nama Film platform aimed at appreciating the physicians and nurses who are combating the coronavirus.     

Several acclaimed Iranian artists including Abolfazl Jalili, Hadi Naeiji, Fariba Kousari, Pouran Derakhshandeh, Ensiyeh Shah Hosseini as well as Giti Khameneh served as the jury members of this section.

Over 1,500 films were submitted to the secretariat of the event in about 4 months. 

Inaugurated on September 21st, the Resistance International Film Festival, coinciding with the Sacred Defence Week in Iran, is regarded as one of the most prestigious international film festivals in Iran. It aims to create an atmosphere of dialogue, understanding of current human sufferings, and to share experiences and new ideas.
