This year, Arba’een mourning ceremonies, which mark the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam in the battle of Karbala, are being held without participation of people and under the health protocols set by national anti-coronavirus headquarters.
The ceremony is being broadcast live from IRIB TV Network Channels and social media networks. Enthusiasts could also log on the website of the Leader at the following address: KHAMENEI.IR to watch the ceremonies live.
Arba’een, meaning “the fortieth” in Arabic, is observed 40 days after Ashura, the tenth day of the lunar calendar month of Muharram, when Imam Hussein was martyred along with his companions by the tyrant of the time, Yazid I, more than thirteen centuries ago.
The Arba’een procession is one of the largest religious ceremonies being held in Iraq every year, but, Iranian Government called it off this year due to the pandemic which has killed over one million people worldwide since its outbreak in December, 2019.
