French magazine awards Iran’s ‘Yalda’

Internationally-celebrated Iranian feature film ‘Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness’ has been honored by France’s Elle Magazine.

The famous French magazine bestowed its ELLE Cinema Grand Prix upon Masoud Bakhshi’s film, which is produced by ifilm star Ali Mosaffa.

The tenth edition of the awarding ceremony picked ‘Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness’ from among more than 100 films screened in France this autumn.

The feature film, which is a joint production of Iran, Switzerland, Germany, Lebanon and Luxembourg, follows the story of a young Iranian woman sentenced to death and seeking to obtain forgiveness from her accusers via a popular reality TV show.

She has killed her husband and now it is up to his only daughter to forgive her or not.

Behnaz Jafari, Faqiheh Soltani, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, Bahram Afshar, Fereshteh Hosseini, and Babak Karimi are among the cast members of the flick.

The film has gone on screen at a number of global events and grabbed a number of awards, including the Grand Jury Award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the US and a Special Mention for best screenplay at the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria.

‘Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness’ has gained high revenues by screening at German movie theaters.

The film was also shown at Le Louxor Cinema in Paris, France, on September 10-October 7, 2020.
