Birds flocking to southwestern Iran: Photos

As winter approaches, migratory birds fly from Russia’s Siberia, Central Asia, Turkey and northern Iran to the wetlands of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province in southwestern Iran.

Currently, small flocks of herons, storks, gulls, egrets and ducks are landing in the province’s wetlands.

The fall migration reaches its peak in early November.

The birds remain in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari just before the wetlands are frozen.

Those birds are from 35 species of waterfowls and shorebirds, including ducks, egrets, herons and flamingos.
