Iran mega director supports "Sun" schools

Famed Iranian director Majid Majidi has urged the public to support a campaign for building "Sun" schools dedicated to underprivileged children with the name inspired by the title of his latest flick.

Majidi said in a press conference at the 2020 Int'l fest for Children and Young Adults in Iran held for his internationally acclaimed movie 'Sun Children'  that child poverty should be dealt with in society with the campaigns endorsed by the public.

He noted that the first step could be building schools for underprivileged children in Iran, adding, "I wish that with 'Sun Children' we could create at least some conditions in the country for these children" to receive proper training and schooling.

"This is the first step and we want to launch campaigns with the help of centers such as the Barakat Foundation to build schools under the same name "Sun". The media should also support this to happen," he added, referring to the name of such schools inspired by his latest flick's title, 'Sun Childern'.

Some of Majidi’s cast members for his flick have been selected from the students of a special school for children engaged in child labor. The film focuses on the issues of such children. 

Earlier this year, ‘Sun Children’ won the best film and best screenplay awards at the 38th edition of the Fajr Film Festival in Tehran. The flick was also acclaimed at the 2020 edition of Venice film fest in Italy.

Majid's new offering has also been screened at the latest edition of the International Film Festival for Children and Young Adults (ICFF) in Iran. Running through October 23, the 33rd edition of the Int’l Film Festival for Children and Youth is being held online this year due to a spike in coronavirus.
