Iran short wins big in French fest

The Bordeaux Shorts- International Festival of 1-Minute Films and Short Films in France has awarded Iranian short film ‘Mermaid’.

Written and directed by Saber Mostafapour, the short film is given the Grand Prix Special at the first edition of the French film event.

‘Mermaid’ is the story of a high school boy named Milad who is a female inside. He drops out to gain his true identity. That is when some of her villain classmates follow her and make it rough for her.

Mehr-Ali Qazvini, Amir Ahangar, Meisam Vahhabi, Mahla Eslami, Mohammadreza Kia, Hamidreza Jafari, Ali Solqani and Tahereh Fard are the cast members of the short flick.

According to the official website of the Bordeaux Shorts, the event accepts super short films on the belief that “the Stories and the way they are told take precedence over the technical means used and that we tell a lot with very little…”.

This year’s edition of the event had specified a section to Iranian filmmakers to be able to easily submit their works to the fest.

It was mentioned on the website of the fest that the political sanctions should not be in the way of directors to show their films to the world.

The closing ceremony for the Bordeaux Shorts was held on October 23, 2020.
