Two Iranian films awarded in Busan

Iranian films ‘Drowning in Holy Water’ and ‘The Slaughterhouse’ have shared an award at the 25th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea.

‘Drowning in Holy Water’ and ‘The Slaughterhouse’ jointly received the Kim Jiseok award at the BIFF, Iranian media reports said on Friday.

 ‘Drowning in Holy Water’, written and directed by Navid Mahmoudi, is about a group of Afghans living in Tehran who are trying to reach Europe.

The movie’s cast members include Ali Shademan, Neda Jebraeili, Matin Heydarnia, and Sadaf Asgari.

‘Drowning in Holy Water’ previously received two nominations at the 38th Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

‘The Slaughterhouse’ is the story of Amir who is deported from France. Unemployed and idle, he has to stay with his father. He later gets involved in a horrifying crime which leads him towards the foreign currencies black market.   

Hassan Pour-Shirazi, Baran Kosari, Mani Haqiqi and Amir-Hossein Fathi make the cast team of Amini’s film.

The 25th edition of Busan International Film Festival, one of the most significant film festivals in Asia, took place on October 21-30.
