Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest’ on stage

William Shakespeare’s comedy ‘The Tempest’ has been scheduled to go on stage at Tehran’s Honar Theater Hall from today.

The stage at Tehran's Honar (art) Theater Hall opens for William Shakespeare’s comedy ‘The Tempest’ from today (May 18) and it ends on June 2. The place has been located at Bldg 2 of Cinema and Theater Faculty, next to Shiroudi Stadium, Varzandeh St., Mofateh St.

The play will be directed by Iranian theater director Mazyar Seyedi. He also performs in the work. Other performers include Hamid Sadri, Mojtaba Alipur, Shadi Amiri, Borna Ansari, Negin Behzad, Anita Rajabi, Yekta Tabibi and Darya Falak.

The story happens in a remote island, where the magician Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her legitimate place using delusion and skilful manipulation. He brings about a storm by practising magic, the eponymous tempest, to cause his arrogant brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to believe they are shipwrecked, trapped and isolated in an inaccessible island. There, his conspiracy brings about the revelation of Antonio’s lowly nature, the redemption of the king, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son, Ferdinand.
