The Iran Cinema Museum in Tehran has scheduled to offer free entry on the International Museum Day, along with the other Iranian museums.
Organized and celebrated by worldwide community of museums on and around May 18 each year, the events and activities planned to celebrate International Museum Day can last a day, a weekend or a whole week.
The theme chosen for 2017 is “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums”.
The aim of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, “Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”
Participation in International Museum Day is growing among museums all over the world. In 2016, more than 35,000 museums participated in the event in some 145 countries.
The idea of Iran Cinema Museum was seriously put forward in August 1994. The task of gathering documents, picture, equipment and other remaining manifestations and memorabilia of Iranian cinema started when an old building in downtown Tehran was put at the disposal of the museum.
The realization of the dream of creating the film museum came about when it was moved after some delay to its present residence in Bagh-e Ferdows with the support of the ministry of culture and Islamic Guidance, especially the deputy minister for film Affairs, the Cultural Heritage.
The museum’s treasury includes thousand photographs of the cinema scenes, about 4400 scenarios, more than 2500 cinematic notices, 1000 cinema films, and almost 3000 documents.
There are 7 saloons in the museum, including halls dedicated to cinema in 1330-1380, International Festivals & Awards, The cinema of the holy defense, The Armenians Section and Iranian Cinema, Children- Teenagers Section, and Sound dubbing and music.
