Italian fest awards ‘Am I a Wolf?’

Iranian animation ‘Am I a Wolf?’ has garnered the Best Animation Award at the 13th Corti a Ponte International Film Festival in Italy.

Jury’s comment on the animation reads, “Both in the way the story is written and in the way is visually represented, it shines for the simplicity and lyricism with which it tells us how the experience of theatrical interpretation can be deeply involving”.

Directed by Amir-Houshang Moeen and based on a fantasy book by Afsaneh Shabannejad, ‘Am I a Wolf?’ is a recreation of the classic fable titled ‘The Wolf and the Lamb’.

In the short animation, a number of students are performing a theater titled ‘The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats’. Everybody has a role.

They are totally getting carried away by their roles in a way that the border between reality and theatrical performance is now hardly realized.

Meanwhile, the child acting as the wolf in the story is scripted to be defeated. That makes him feel lonely and annoyed.

As he takes his role too seriously, a bit of chaos startles the group. In the end, the presence of other children and his friends next to him take him out of this mood.

The animation has gone on screen at several global events, including the annual World Festival of Animated Film Zagreb in Croatia, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, and the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film in Germany.

The Corti a Ponte festival is a unique event in Italy that dedicates a large international section to children and young people.

The event hosts short films made by children from around the world. The films are selected based on their quality and cultural value.

The 13th edition of the Italian festival was held from October 31 to November 7, 2020.
