2 Iranian animations in running at Chicago Int’l Children's fest

Two Iranian animation including ‘The Eleventh Step’ and ‘Am I a Wolf?’ have been competing at the 37th Annual Chicago International Children's Film Festival (CICFF37).

‘Am I a Wolf?’ by Amir-Houshang Moeen and Maryam Kashkoulinia’s animated piece ‘The Eleventh Step’ are competing for award at the 2020 CICFF, which is being held from November 13 and will run until November 22.

As one of only two Academy Award-qualifying international children’s film festivals in the world, the CICFF37 is taking place online this year, featuring 262 films and 242 shorts from 52 countries.

Inspired by a book with the same title written by Sousan Taqdis, ‘The Eleventh Step’ focuses on the themes of freedom and captivity.

Previously, ‘The Eleventh Step’ participated in the 60th Annecy Int’l Animated Film Festival in France, the 60th Zlin Film Festival in the Czech Republic, the 10th Supertoon Int’l Animation Festival in Croatia, the 17th Sedicicorto Film Festival in Italy and the 16th Korea Independent Animation Film Festival (Indie-AniFest) in South Korea.

The 8-minute ‘Am I a Wolf?’, which recently received the best film award at the 8th Canlandiranlar Film Festival in Turkey, is about a group of pupils performing “The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats”. But the child acting as the wolf feels lonely and irritated.

This Iranian short flick is a recipient of various accolades from various global film festivals, including Best Short film Award from the 10th Int’l Animation Film Festival Golden Kuker - Sofia in Bulgaria, Child Dreams Prize at the 7th Insomnia Int’l Animation Film Festival in Russia, New Face Award at the 22nd Media Arts Festival in Japan and Best Animated Film at the 6th edition of the Tripoli Film Festival in Lebanon.
