‘23 People’ to vie at Resistance Film Festival

Fajr award-wining war movie ‘23 People’ has made its way to the Resistance International Film Festival in Iran.

The main competition section of the 16th edition of the event is to host the film directed by Mehdi Jafari.

The film is based on “Those 23 Individuals”, the memoirs of Ahmad Yousefzadeh, one of the 23 volunteers who were held captive in Iraq.

‘The 23’ narrates the life and wartime experiences of 23 Iranian teenage volunteers who were captives during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

The project was financed by Tehran-based Owj Arts and Media Organization which produces revolutionary works in art and cinema.

‘23 People’ received a largely positive reaction from the audience at its 37th Fajr premiere.

The flick previously grabbed six National Will Manifestation awards of the 37th Fajr Film Festival in Iran. It has also been named the film of the year by Iranian National Commission for UNESCO.

The annual Resistance festival is an attempt to commemorate the anniversary of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war, which is known as the “Sacred Defense” in Iran. To this end, the event runs in two different stages. The first one took place during the Sacred Defense Week from September 21 to 28 in Tehran.

The second part of the Resistance festival will be held from November 21 to 27 to celebrate the anniversary of Basij Day, which falls on November 25.
