Iran’s ‘Locked’ wins award in Italy

Iranian short animation ‘Locked’ has garnered an award at the 2020 edition of the Cittadella Geo Film Festival in Italy.

The animation received the Golden Earth award for Best Animation at the Italian festival.

Written and directed by Ahmad Khoshniyyat, the film is about a trapped human, with the hope of freedom.

He keeps begging and worshiping a stony icon, which sucks his sap of life in lieu of giving him an opportunity to be free.

“But the human is never freed until he proceeds a different way,” a short synopsis of the film reads.

The 11-minute animated film attended the Tehran International Animation Festival in Iran as well as other global events such as the Italian Environmental Film Festival and the International Silent Film Festival in Mexico.

Khoshniyyat, who is also the producer of the animation, has previously said, “‘Locked’ is a surreal and symbolic work that is formed based on the internal feelings of myself and my studies. I used the sources like my repetitive dreams and also ideas of English philosopher Francis Bacon about idols of the mind. I call ‘Locked’ a personal, philosophical and psychological work that those who are familiar with philosophical subjects can understand it better”.

The Cittadella Geo Film Festival hosts professionals from various artistic sectors such as music, cinema, theater, figurative arts, and photography.

The awards of the 2020 edition of the Cittadella Geo Film Festival were announced on November 21.
