Written and directed by Saber Mostafapour, the film will join competition at the Short Film section of the French event’s 5th edition.
‘Mermaid’ is the story of a high school boy named Milad who is a female inside. He drops out to gain his true identity. That is when some of her villain classmates follow her and make it rough for her.
Mehr-Ali Qazvini, Amir Ahangar, Meisam Vahhabi, Mahla Eslami, Mohammadreza Kia, Hamidreza Jafari, Ali Solqani and Tahereh Fard are the cast members of the short flick.
The film has already been showcased at a number of global events, including the Pink City Int’l Short filmfest in India and the Bordeaux Shorts: Int’l Fest of 1-Minute Films and Short Films in France, which awarded the flick the Grand Prix Special.
According to the official website of the event, “the Mediterranean Film Festival Cannes aims to promote independent filmmakers and innovative work that take risks and move the frontiers from the boring and most of the times empty conventional to the artistic initiating strong emotions and out of the box of exceptional”.
The fest, which has been originally slated for November 27-30, is postponed for an indefinite time in 2021 over the second wave of the pandemic in Europe.
