‘Gaze’ to be showcased at Chinese fest

Iranian short film ‘Gaze’ has been picked for screening at the 2020 Macau International Short Film Festival in China.

Directed by Farnoush Samadi, the 15-minute film will be in competition at the “Expanded Cinema: Modern Cinema – Iranian Short Films” category of the 11th edition of the Macau festival, to be held on December 1-8.

‘Gaze’ is about a woman who witnesses something happening in a bus while commuting home from work. She has to decide whether to bring it out to the public or not.

'Gaze' has so far competed at a number of internationally famous film festivals and won many awards including, the best film by audience choice at the Minimalen Short Film Festival in Norway, the Best Short Film award at the Guanajuato Int’l Film Festival in Mexico, the Golden Pram Award at the 16th Zagreb Film Festival in Croatia and a diploma of honor for best short film from the 21st Guanajuato Int’l Film Festival in Mexico.

‘Gaze’ has also received best film award from the 31st American Film Institute Festival in 2017 and has been qualified for Academy Award known as Oscar.

The screenplay for the flick has been the result of collaboration between Samadi and Ali Asgari. In 2018, both the writers were selected by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in the US to become members.

The Macau International Short Film Festival, previously was known as Sound & Image Challenge International Festival, is an annual worldwide audio-visual festival, that aims to motivate overseas and Macau short movies.
