Indian fest honors Derakhshandeh

The 13th Global Film Festival Noida has honored Iranian prominent director Pouran Derakhshandeh.

Iranian media reported on Wednesday that the filmmaker, whose films participated in the Indian festival, was honored with an award for her lifetime achievements during the event.

Derakhshandeh was born in the Iranian province of Kermanshah in 1951.

She is the first female filmmaker following Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. She is also a screenwriter and producer.

She made her feature film directorial debut with ‘The Relationship’ in 1986. The film was awarded at the Giffoney Film Festival in Italy.

Derakhshandeh is mostly known for her movies ‘Little Bird of Happiness’ (1988), ‘Forever Young’ (2006), and ‘Hush! Girls Don't Scream’ (2013), which garnered several awards at Iranian and international film festivals.

She also served on the jury panel of various film festivals in Iran and across the world.

The Global Film Festival Noida is the “world’s biggest film festival that celebrates the essence & power of cinema & films with a seamless convergence of the global film community with student filmmakers, cine-enthusiasts & cine-artists,” the event’s website reads.

The 13th Global Film Festival Noida took place online on November 26-28, 2020.
