Artists decry Iran scientist assassination

The assassination of Iran’s nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has drawn wide condemnation from veteran artists.

Fakhrizadeh, the head of the Iranian Defense Ministry’s Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research, was targeted in a terrorist attack near the capital, Tehran, on November 27.

Iranian government officials and military commanders have hinted that the Israeli regime was behind his assassination.

Iranian veteran artists of different fields have decried the assassination.

Houshang Tavakoli, a veteran actor and director, said, “The assassination is, in general, an inhuman and reprehensible act… But the assassination of our country's nuclear scientist, who was a great and influential man, is also no exception to this rule,” stressing that this assassination is “unforgivable”.

Hossein Fakhimi, a veteran artist in the field of Visual Arts, also denounced the move, saying the assassination of Fakhrizadeh “shows the weakness and powerlessness” of those behind it.

Reacting to the terror attack, Iranian composer Hassan Riahi also said “This assassination was unfortunate and we condemn it.”

Iranian singer Esfandiar Qarabaghi also slammed the assassination as an “inhuman act”.

Meanwhile, the 76-year-old actor Reza Banafshekhah described the loss of one of the country's scientists in a terror attack as “sad and very unfortunate”.

“The assassination of this scientist was a heinous act,” said Parviz Beigi Habib Abadi, a poet and writer.

Last week, a number of prominent cineastes, including Parviz Parastouee, Ebrahim Hatamikia, Kamal Tabrizi and Majid Majidi, Narges Abyar, and Rasoul Sadr-Ameli, issued a statement, condemning recent assassination of the Iraninan nuclear scientist.
