‘Ahoo’ wins Brazilian fest award

Short film ‘Ahoo’ has grabbed the Best Film Award at the 12th edition of the Lobo Fest - International Film Festival in Brazil.

Directed by Amir-Hossein Hemmati, the 19-minute flick is about an Afghan woman, named Ahoo, who tries to hold on to the difficult life where women are treated like second class citizens, tries to survive and make a living in this brutal environment that challenges her.

Only pursuing this purpose, Ahoo has an important secret that would put her in a difficult position if revealed.

In an interview about his film, Hemmati said, “I was working with Afghan immigrants in some constructions in Iran. Many did not have permission to stay in Iran. I noticed how hard it was for them. Actually, this is not what I'm telling in this film. For example, I've not seen a mother who lived alone. But I wanted to do something like this to commemorate them. My starting point was to demonstrate the problems and difficulties”.

Mahya Dehqani, Sima Salami, Alireza Mokhtari, and Masoud Reyhani are on the cast list of the short film.

Due to the situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak, the 2020 edition of the festival was held entirely online.

The festival’s program included online screening of all films, live interviews with directors and other live events.

The 12th edition of the event was held on November 27-December 6.
