Berlinale funds Iranian project

The Berlin International Film Festival is slated to fund Iranian actor Peyman Maadi’s new production.

The 2021 edition of Berlinale World Cinema Fund (WCF) will fund Iran-France joint project directed by Alireza Khatami by €30,000.

Alireza Khatami is an Iranian filmmaker who participated at the 2015 Berlinale Talent Campus.

Maadi started his film career as a screenwriter in the late 2000s.

He has written screenplay for several successful Iranian movies, including ‘Swan Song’, ‘Wedding Dinner’, ‘The Snow on the Pines’, and ‘Bomb a Love Story’.

He started his acting career in Asghar Farhadi’s ‘About Elly’.

Since then, he has been in a number of award-winning movies such as 'Just 6.5' and ‘A Separation’ which brought him the award for Best Actor in leading role at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany.

Founded in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival is one of the world’s leading film events which is annually held in Germany in February.
