French gala nominates Iran’s movie

Iranian feature film ‘Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness’ has won a nomination at the 26th Lumieres Awards in France.

Masoud Bakhshi’s film co-produced by Iran, Switzerland, Germany, Lebanon and Luxembourg has been selected as candidate to receive the award, which is the French equivalence of the Golden Globe.

‘Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness’, produced by ifilm star Ali Mosaffa, follows the story of a young Iranian woman sentenced to death and seeking to obtain forgiveness from her accusers via a popular reality TV show.

She has killed her husband and now it is up to his only daughter to forgive her or not.

Behnaz Jafari, Faqiheh Soltani, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, Bahram Afshar, Fereshteh Hosseini, and Babak Karimi are among the cast members of the flick.

The film has gone on screen at a number of global events and grabbed a number of awards, including the Grand Jury Award at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival in the US and a Special Mention for best screenplay at the Sofia International Film Festival in Bulgaria.

The flick has gained high revenues by screening at German movie theaters. It was also shown at Le Louxor Cinema in Paris, France, on September 10-October 7, 2020.

Launched in 1995, the Lumieres Awards is a ceremony held in Paris by the Academie des Lumieres presenting the Lumieres Award to the best French-Speaking films of the previous year.

The upcoming edition of the event is slated for January 19, 2021.
