Iran’s film to go to Bangladeshi fest

Iranian-German feature film ‘Bandar Band’ has been set to take part in the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Manijeh Hekmat’s movie will be among the titles to be showcased at the Women Filmmakers section of the Bangladeshi film event’s 19th edition.

‘Bandar Band’ is a road movie that depicts flooded landscapes of Iran. The movie is filled with a genre of music that is the pop culture among the youngsters of the country.

A pregnant woman, her husband and another musician form a three-member band that is willing to attend a music contest in Tehran. The contest can change their life but can they get to Tehran in time for the event?

Reza Koulqani, Amir-Hossein Taheri, Mahdieh Mousavi and Pegah Ahangarani, the director’s daughter are some of the cast members of the flick.

The film has already participated in a number of global film events, including the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and the Zurich Film Festival in Germany.

Since 1977, the DIFF has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of ‘Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society’.

Some 200 films from 60 countries will compete at the DIFF in the following categories: Asian Competition Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Film, Short and Independent Film, Women Filmmakers Section, and Spiritual Films Section.

The 19th edition of the fest is slated for January 16-24, 2021.
