JFF to feature ‘The Pains of the Sea’

Iranian short flick ‘The Pains of the Sea’ has been named as an official selection for the Jacksonville Film Festival (JFF) in the US.

The short film, directed by Mohammad-Reza Masoudi, will be screened at the 15th edition of the American festival next month.

‘The Pains of the Sea’ is about refugees who are forced to flee their countries because of war, but they embark on a journey that is not less risky than the war.

“Syrian and Iraqi refugees try to cross the sea to reach Turkey. A mother has to choose between seeing and not, the death of her child in front of her eyes in the sea...,” a synopsis for the film, published by the JFF website, reads.

Earlier reports said Iranian films ‘Echo’ by Barzan Rostami, Farnoush Abedi’s ‘Malakout’, and ‘The Rotation’ by Hazhir Asadi will also compete at the American event.

The JFF’s mission is to “celebrate motion pictures by discovering and showcasing new talent”, the event’s website reads.

“The festival is an opportunity for filmmakers to be recognized for their cinematic achievements while creating an event to reward the best work submitted to the festival.”

The 15th JFF will take place on February 5-10.
