‘Gijgah’ gets license for theatrical release

Adel Tabrizi’s feature film ‘Gijgah’ (Temple) has received a license for theatrical release in Iran.

‘Gijgah’ is the directorial debut of Tabrizi.

The film is set in the 1990s. It is about Hassan Khoshnoud, a karate instructor who has given a book he had authored to one of his students, but he later regrets and tries to take back the book.

“‘Gijgah’ is not a nostalgic film. It is about a mood that doesn’t exist anymore,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The movie’s cast members include Hamed Behdad, Jamshid Hashempour, Baran Kosari, Soroush Sehhat, Farhad Ayeesh, Amir-Hossein Rostami, and Bijan Banafsheh-Khah.

Late last month, ‘Gijgah’ applied for the 39th edition of the Fajr Film Festival (FFF) in Tehran.

The FFF coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The 2021 edition of the event will be held without public screenings and will only see jurors watching and judging the participating movies due to the coronavirus pandemic.
