Oldest animation discovered in Iran

National Museum of Iran hosts imagery with goat motif on pottery artifact known as the oldest animation across the globe.

The design of goat motifs was one of the unique features of some pottery in ancient Iran, Yet the artifact discovered in the remains of UNESCO-inscribed Burnt City has an intriguing story.

When the goblet was discovered researchers noticed the images on the artifact tell an animated visual story. As such, the oldest cartoon character in the world is a goat leaping to get the leaves on a tree.

Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts in Iran has made a short film using the images on the goblet from the Burnt City. Founded around 3200 BC, it was populated during four main periods up to 1800 BC.
